Privacy Policy

This policy applies to the Axis mobile application, the Axis website, public links used to share Axis posts, and support or administrative activities connected to those services. It does not apply to third-party websites or services that you visit through external links.

The information we collect depends on how you use Axis and which permissions or features you choose.

• Account and authentication information: your name, email address, Axis user ID, and authentication information handled by Supabase.
• Profile and career information: whether you use Axis as a student or professional, display name, languages, university, field of study, study year, interests, verification status, profile photo, LinkedIn URL, time zone, and career roles such as title, company, and location.
• Content you provide: audio recordings, post titles, questions, answers, and other information you choose to publish or submit. Axis may create transcripts and English or French translations from published audio.
• Activity information: posts you listen to, like, or bookmark; questions you ask, answer, follow, or dismiss; notification status; and related timestamps and engagement counts.
• Device and notification information: push-notification token, platform, language, app version, last-seen time, and delivery status or error information when you enable notifications.
• Website and technical information: IP address, browser and device information, requested pages, timestamps, security or diagnostic logs, and a language-preference cookie. The public website does not currently use advertising cookies.
• Optional device permissions: microphone access to record audio; camera or photo-library access to choose a profile picture; and notification permission to receive alerts. Axis only accesses these features when you choose to use them and the operating system grants permission.

We use information to provide, maintain, personalize, and protect Axis.

• Create and authenticate accounts, complete onboarding, and maintain profiles.
• Connect students with relevant alumni and professional experiences based on factors such as field of study, university, country, language, and interests.
• Record, publish, transcribe, translate, play, and share audio posts.
• Route questions and answers, provide the Question of the Day, and notify users about relevant activity.
• Remember bookmarks and likes, count listens, operate feeds, and improve how content is organized.
• Provide support, administer verification, moderate content, investigate misuse, secure the service, and enforce our rules.
• Comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share information only as needed to operate the service, as directed by you, or when legally required.

• Supabase provides authentication, database, storage, and server-side processing for Axis.
• Google provides fonts used on the website.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging processes device tokens and notification-delivery information when push notifications are enabled.
• OpenAI processes published audio for automated transcription and translation.
• Authorized Axis and Believe personnel may access information when needed for support, verification, moderation, security, or administration.
• Information may be disclosed when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, or transfer of the service, subject to appropriate safeguards.

Axis is designed for sharing professional experiences. Profile information and visible career roles may be shown to signed-in Axis users. Profile photos may be accessible through a public media URL.

Published audio posts and associated details—such as the author’s name, profile photo, field, university, career role, post title, and audio—may be visible to Axis users. They may also be available to anyone who receives a public Axis sharing link. Questions, answers, and related identity details may be visible to other users where the feature indicates this.

Please avoid including sensitive personal information in content that you publish or submit for sharing.

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Axis, maintain the integrity and safety of the service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. Published content may remain available until it is deleted, unpublished, or the associated profile is disabled.

When an account is deleted, its account record and associated content are removed from Axis's live systems. Residual copies may remain in isolated backups for up to 30 days before being permanently deleted. We may retain limited information when required by law or necessary to prevent fraud and abuse.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

• You can update profile information and remove your profile photo from the app.
• You can manage microphone, camera, photo-library, and notification permissions in your device settings.
• You can edit or delete certain pending questions and remove your own posts where the app makes those controls available.
• You can permanently delete your account from the Account section in the Axis app, or use our public account-deletion page if you no longer have access to the app. We may need to verify your identity before completing a web request.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. These include authenticated access, database row-level access controls, restricted administrative access, encrypted network connections, and storage rules that limit who may upload or retrieve media.

No internet or storage system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you are responsible for protecting your account credentials and device.

Axis and its service providers may process and store information in countries other than the one where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

Axis is intended for university students, graduates, alumni, and professionals. It is not directed to children who are below the minimum age required to consent to digital services in their jurisdiction. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate authorization, please contact us.

We may update this Privacy Policy as Axis evolves or legal requirements change. We will publish the updated policy on this page, change the date above, and provide additional notice when a change is material and applicable law requires it.
